Fans
of the Toothsome Twosome will
not want to miss Wallace & Gromits
Cracking Contraptions Manual 2, which
illustrates the wild and wacky inventions
featured in the animated series...
ENTHUSIASTIC INVENTOR Wallace lets his imagination run riot as he puts together
his greatest projects (with the help of his canine friend) in Wallace & Gromit
Cracking Contraptions Manual 2, which covers everything from the
jumbo generator, inflatable safety suit, garden exit system and pie launcher.
Not to mention the fantastic cellar studio and moon rocket.
Highly amusing contraptions are illustrated by fabulous photography with the
famous Haynes-style detailed sketches showing the internal workings with cutaway
drawings (meticulously researched technical descriptions outline exactly how
these 'labour-saving devices' work) and an explanation of the inventions and
their purpose.
Everyone would love to have the Mk1 Easy Iron especially if they had
a best friend like Gromit to help! This would certainly take the tedium out
of pressing your clothes. Perhaps the fuel and drinks dispenser would be good
for a 'serve yourself' garage. Quite a handy gadget this, if you are in desperate
need of either. Just make sure you don't put coffee in your car and diesel in
your tummy!
Hot on the heels of the huge success of the first Wallace & Gromit Cracking
Contraptions Manual published last year, Haynes has turned its technical
attentions to the unorthodox vehicles and inventions of Wallace & Gromit, including
the superb Austin A35 Van, complete with rabbit lure modification.
Wallace & Gromit Cracking Contraptions 2 lifts the lid on Wallace's brand
new inventions exclusively created for last year's World Of Inventions
series on BBC One, as well as the marvellous machines built for Aardman's box
office hit The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit.
Welcoming this second Manual, Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park of Aardman
Animation says: "I was so overwhelmed by the success of our first Wallace and
Gromit Haynes Manual and so now to have a second volume out is just unbelievable.
It is a double honour to bring to Wallace & Gromit fans everywhere a second
volume of their ridiculous gadgets and inventions, dissected and beautifully
illustrated in that distinctively British Haynes Manual tradition."
In a letter to the Editor, published in Cracking Contraptions 2, Wallace
writes: "I'm so glad that everyone enjoyed the first book… I'm sure readers
who, like Gromit and me, enjoy a modern lifestyle will find plenty here to keep
them occupied."
The book includes details of Wallace's new PRONTO PRINT machine (patent pending),
created especially for the purpose of printing this new Manual. He adds: "Everyone
at Stains Manuals can now put their feet up and have a cuppa because
I've finished the book for you."
Many of the well-known contraptions are included in this latest manaul. The
internationally-acclaimed Bun Vac 6000, which in The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit
won Wallace Lady Tottington's heart and finished off his love rival Victor,
is laid bare for all to see, alongside the Anti-Pesto Launch System, complete
with diagrams for all five phases of operation.
Wallace's
terrific cellar studio from World Of Inventions is revealed, with special
attention paid to the Jumbo Generator a remarkable, if somewhat unorthodox
solution to the huge power demands of the television studio. Detailed diagrams
and technical descriptions outline how the methane gas emitted from an elephant
(Kevin) is harnessed totally humanely, of course!
Wallace & Gromit Cracking Contraptions Manual 2 is written by Derek Smith
(with a letter from Wallace), an Editor at Haynes Publishing, and illustrated
by Graham Bleathman, one of the country's foremost illustrators who is renowned
for his drawings for the Gerry Anderson cult television series Thunderbirds,
Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Joe 90 and X-Men annuals.
He is particularly well-known for his 'cross section' illustrations. His drawings
have appeared in a number of books, magazines and comics since the early 1990s.
Rib-ticklingly funny, Wallace & Gromit Cracking Contraptions 2 is a fascinating
and clever journey into 'what ifs' with wonderful illustrations and detailed
diagrams. With background information about each project and how it fits into
Wallace & Gromit's lives, the contraptions include some that are a bit scary
like the Mind Manipulation-O-Matic with a thought collection dome. Wallace
had a thought that it could clear the bunnies minds of vegetable eating… and
we all know how that ended!
