In The Land Of Women
In The Land Of Women A funny, sad and very
  human story: a sensitive
  young writer who has
  been dumped by his
  actress girlfriend and is
  in search of inspiration
  goes to stay with his
  ailing grandmother and
  finds himself In The Land
  Of Women
...”

WHEN CARTER WEBB
'S ACTRESS GIRLFRIEND Sophia Buñuel (Elena Anaya) ends their relationship, he is devastated as he believed she was his one true love. A writer, he is being hassled by his boss over an unsatisfactory script and has long held an ambition to write about growing up in Los Angeles a story that has been buzzing around in his head since high school.

Then his mother Agnes (JoBeth Williams) tells him his grandmother Phyllis (Olympia Dukakis, Away From Her) believes she is dying and Carter (Adam Brody, The O C, Mr and Mrs Smith) offers to travel to Michigan to find out how she is and to seek inspiration. In Michigan, 26-year-old Carter finds himself In The Land Of Women.

Although keen for some time to himself, he becomes involved with the family next door: the endearing and quirky Sarah Hardwicke (Meg Ryan, Sleepless In Seattle) has made two shattering discoveries — not only
is her husband Nelson (Clark Gregg) having an affair, but she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has an uneasy relationship with
her teenaged daughter Lucy (Kristen Stewart, Panic Room) but her youngest daughter Paige (a very appealing Makenzie Vega) is carefree and direct.

Into their lives comes Carter, with words of wisdom and encourage-ment; finding himself a confidante to Sarah and Lucy and bringing with his friendship changes to their lives that will have a lasting effect. To his death-obsessed grandmother he is a companion and carer and he forms a strong bond with her.

Carter proves to be a staunch support In The Land Of Women, where he makes many invaluable observations while helping to open up a line of communication between Lucy and her mother.

Written and Directed by Jonathan Kasdan, this is a fabulous film about facing the reality of life, love and death — and just being there for someone. Great characters and a terrific dialogue elevate In The Land Of Women to a cut above. The Executive Producer is Lawrence Kasdan and the film was produced by Steve Golin and David Kanter. The wonderful original score is by Stephen Trask and the film has a great soundtrack (available on Lakeshore Records). In The Land Of Women was filmed on location in Victoria (British Columbia) and Los Angeles.

The fabulous cast also includes Dustin Milligan as Eric Watts, Graham Wardle as Gabe Foley, Ginnifer Goodwin as Janey and Angus as Bozo the dog.

Romantic comedy fans — and anyone who enjoyed The O C — are guaranteed to love In The Land Of Women, released on DVD on 31 March (2008) courtesy of Warner Home Video. £9.99 (RRP) | Running Time 97 Minutes | Extras: Trailers | Certificate 16 | Genre: Romantic Drama.
