BEGINNING WITH THE DEATH of Romeo Montague (Jamie Ward: The Last Supper; His Dark Materials; Tyrant) and Juliet Capulet (Clara Rugaard: Love Gets A Room; Black Mirror) in front of the altar of the Friar (Derek Jacobi: Gladiator II; The King's Speech), the film plots a turbulent time in the 14th Century when Royals and the Church struggle for dominance.

Some time earlier Juliet had returned to Italy from her years away at a French school and meets Romeo, the son of Lord Montague (Jason Isaacs: The White Lotus; Harry Potter franchise; Mrs Harris Goes To Paris) who doesn't realise she is the daughter of his family's enemies, the Capulets. Juliet chooses to remain mysterious, refusing to tell him her name.

Lady Capulet (Rebel Wilson: Perfect Pitch; JoJo Rabbit) is as much a pawn as Juliet, her daughter, as the male Capulets and Montagues strive for power and recognition.

Romeo and Juliet have fallen in love but her father Lord Capulet (Rupert Everett: My Best Friend's Wedding; The Shrek franchise) is looking for an alliance to benefit his family and has secretly arranged a marriage that would see him attain an advantage over the hated Montagues.

The Friar hopes a marriage would heal the rift between the warring families but the lovers experience hostility and betrayal as they search for a way they can be together. Their future looks bleak as a masked Romeo slips into the Capulet's castle to find Juliet only to be discovered. Escaping into the moat, he is thought to have drowned; a belief that brings with it terrible consequences.

The Friar consults the Apothecary (Tony Award winner Dan Fogler: A Complete Unknown; Fantastic Beasts franchise; The Walking Dead), who may just have something to help the lovers. But will it be in time to prevent the unthinkable…?
